Micropigmentation vs Microblading: Understand the Differences!

2023-03-16

Microblading and Micropigmentation are both techniques used for the semi-permanent filling of eyebrows, with the aim of improving their appearance through pigmentation with a lasting effect. However, there are some differences between the two procedures.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a manual technique done with a Tebori, which uses a small blade to create fine lines on the skin, in order to simulate each hair of the eyebrow. This procedure is done with a specific pigment and has a result that is very close to the natural appearance of the eyebrow. By simulating the eyebrow hair strands, it is also called thread-by-thread micropigmentation.

Microblading is not recommended if:

  • You’re pregnant;
  • You’re breastfeeding;
  • Have diabetes;
  • There are open wounds in the eyebrow region;
  • There is eczema or any skin irritation;
  • There is difficulty in healing;
  • There is a propensity for keloids or post-inflammatory hypopigmentation;
  • There are allergies to pigments (we always test on a small area of skin).

What is Micropigmentation?

Micropigmentation is an eyebrow filling technique that uses an electric tool, a dermograph, to deposit the pigment on the skin. This process is less invasive and faster than microblading, and is usually chosen by those who prefer a stronger and more marked effect.

Both procedures are indicated to correct flaws and other imperfections in the eyebrows.

In general, the choice between one technique or the other depends on the eyebrow style that the person wants to have and the degree of invasiveness that they are willing or able to tolerate.

Whichever you choose, the most important thing is that you understand the differences between the two and consult a qualified and experienced professional, whom you can trust to advise you and carry out the procedure.

Differences between Micropigmentation and Microblading

In both cases, microblading or micropigmentation, the professional chooses the type of needle suitable for the type of technique and for the eyebrow style desired by the client. The most important thing is that the professional is trained and experienced to perform the procedure safely and effectively.

Another difference is the device used in each of the procedures. Tebori and Dermograph are two tools used for semi-permanent eyebrow filling. Although they both look like a pen, they work differently in the way they operate and deposit pigment into the skin.

Tebori is a traditional Japanese technique that uses curved needles mounted on a wooden handle. It is a manual inducer, so the practitioner uses the movement of the wrists to control the depth and speed of penetration of the ink into the skin.

The procedure performed with Tebori is considered more invasive and more painful when compared to other techniques, but it is also the most suitable for those who want a more natural and detailed result. The threads created through Tebori bring an incredible naturalness to the eyebrows, resulting in a smooth and super realistic effect!

The Dermograph is an electrical inductor made up of one or more needles, depending on the desired effect. It is a device used in capillary micropigmentation, eyebrows, eyes and mouth micropigmentation. Dermograph is very versatile and allows you to create threads, boundaries and give a shading effect. In general, we opt for this device when the client wants a stronger and more marked result.

Which procedure to choose: Micropigmentation or Microblading?

They are both WONDERFUL! However, your choice will depend on your preferences and what is possible to do and recommended for your case.

Note: If you are a minor, the procedure is only performed with parental consent.
