Micropigmentation on oily skin requires special attention in order to guarantee the durability and quality of the result. Here are some tips and precautions.

Micropigmentation is a procedure that helps to enhance the natural beauty of the face, providing long-lasting results. This aesthetic procedure is gaining more and more followers because it offers incredible results in terms of definition, practicality and beauty.

However, those with oily skin may have some specific concerns when it comes to this procedure, as micropigmentation on oily skin requires special attention in order to guarantee the durability and quality of the result.

If you're one of these people or you're a professional who wants to offer better service and guidance to your clients, this article is for you! I'll cover the main tips and care needed to guarantee marvellous results, even on oily skin.

Who am I? Gabryela Albernaz, a leading micropigmentation artist in Portugal, specialised in eyebrow micropigmentation, eyeliner micropigmentation and lip micropigmentation.

Characteristics of Oily Skin

Oily skin is characterised by the exaggerated production of sebum by the sebaceous glands. This can result in excessive shine, enlarged pores and a greater tendency to develop acne.

Having oily skin can interfere with micropigmentation, as the excess oil present in the skin can make it difficult for the pigment to adhere, causing the result to last less time and need to be touched up more often.

Even so, if you have oily skin and want to have micropigmentation, don't be discouraged! The procedure is possible.

If, like me, you're also a micropigmentation artist, here are a few tips and precautions you can follow to achieve optimum results, even for clients with oily skin.

Tips for Micropigmentation on Oily Skin

Micropigmentation on oily skin can present some challenges. However, there are tips you can follow to get the best possible result!

1. Prior assessment:

Before starting the procedure, you should book a prior assessment appointment so that you can make a detailed assessment of the client's skin.

Identifying the degree of oiliness and any skin problems, such as acne or other inflammations, is fundamental to adapting the technique and care required.

2. Choosing pigments:

Choose high-quality pigments from trusted brands. For oily skin, it's best to opt for more concentrated pigments with cooler tones, as they tend to set better and don't fade as much over time.

You can also do a colour test on a smaller area to see how the pigment behaves on the client's skin.

3. Application technique:

It's essential to adapt the technique used to the client's skin type. Micropigmentation on oily skin may require a more superficial application than normal, avoiding excessive depth which can result in pigment migration, leaving a less natural effect.

4. Hygiene and care after the procedure:

You should talk to the client about the importance of proper hygiene after micropigmentation. In the case of oily skin, it is recommended to use specific products for this type of skin, such as mild soaps and astringent lotions, to keep the area clean and avoid infections.

5. Avoid excess oil:

You should guide the client to avoid using oily products on the micropigmented area. Heavy creams and some make-up products can interfere with healing and pigment fixation, jeopardising the results of micropigmentation.

6. About retouching:

Oily skin, in general, may require more frequent touch-ups than other skin types. You should inform the client of this possibility and schedule regular sessions to guarantee the durability and quality of the result.

Specific Care for Micropigmentation on Oily Skin

Any micropigmentation procedure, like other aesthetic procedures, requires certain precautions to ensure the client's safety and the durability and excellence of the results.

In the case of micropigmentation on oily skin, as we've seen before, the process can be a little more challenging. That's why we must emphasise even more what care should be taken during healing and also in the long term.

During healing:

  • Avoid sun exposure: The sun can affect healing and pigment fixation. You should therefore avoid sun exposure during the healing period and always use sunscreen, suitable for oily skin, on the micropigmented area.
  • Don't scratch or rub: You may feel slight discomfort and the urge to scratch the micropigmented area during the healing process, this is normal. However, it is very important that you avoid touching the treated area so as not to jeopardise the result.
  • Keep the micropigmented area clean and dry: Sanitise the micropigmented area with products suitable for healing and your skin type, and avoid the accumulation of oil and dirt.

In the long term:

  • Try to use the right products: The use of moisturisers and specific cosmetics for oily skin will help control the shine and oiliness of the skin, maintaining the results of micropigmentation for longer.
  • Make regular appointments: Whenever necessary, schedule evaluation and retouching sessions.

In short, micropigmentation on oily skin can present some challenges, but with the right care and the right techniques, you can achieve incredible, long-lasting results. Detailed assessments, choosing the right products and giving the right guidance to the client are essential steps for a successful procedure.
